How to make your calendar
- Pick the year (2026 or 2027) and the public holidays you want marked, or choose no holidays for a plain calendar.
- Choose a layout. “Full year on one page” fits all twelve months on a single sheet, which works well on a fridge or a desk. “One month per page” prints twelve pages with large boxes you can write in. “A single month” prints just one.
- Set the week start. The US and Canada usually start the week on Sunday; the UK, Europe and Australia use Monday (the ISO 8601 standard). Changing the country sets a sensible default, and you can override it.
- Pick paper and orientation. Letter for North America, A4 elsewhere. Landscape gives wider boxes for monthly pages.
- Press “Print or save as PDF”. In the print dialog choose your printer, or choose “Save as PDF” to keep a file. Turn off headers and footers for a clean edge.
The preview under the options shows exactly what will print. Only the calendar prints: the site header, the options and this article are left out.
Worked example: a 2027 US calendar
Choose 2027, United States federal holidays, full year on one page, Sunday start and US Letter. The calendar marks 12 days off, one more than the usual 11, because three holidays fall on weekends in 2027:
- Juneteenth (Saturday 19 June) is observed on Friday 18 June.
- Independence Day (Sunday 4 July) is observed on Monday 5 July.
- Christmas Day (Saturday 25 December) is observed on Friday 24 December.
New Year’s Day 2028 is a Saturday, so federal staff also get Friday 31 December 2027 off. That is why the 2027 calendar shows it. The .ics file holds the same 12 all-day events.
Which holidays are included
Each country option covers holidays that apply across the whole country, not regional ones:
- United States: the 11 federal holidays set by 5 U.S.C. 6103, on the day federal employees get off. When a holiday falls on a Saturday the Friday before is the day off; on a Sunday it is the Monday after. Many private employers follow the same days, but not all of them, and states add their own.
- United Kingdom: the 8 bank holidays for England and Wales, with GOV.UK’s substitute days when Christmas, Boxing Day or New Year falls on a weekend. Scotland and Northern Ireland have different lists.
- Canada: the 10 general holidays in the Canada Labour Code for federally regulated workplaces, on their calendar dates. Provinces set their own lists for most other employers, so Easter Monday, Family Day or Civic Holiday may also apply to you.
- Australia: the holidays observed nationally (New Year’s Day, Australia Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Christmas and Boxing Day) plus the weekday additional days when Christmas or Boxing Day falls on a weekend. The King’s Birthday and other days differ by state.
How the dates are worked out
Nothing is copied from a list. The calendar applies each government’s rules in code: fixed dates such as 4 July, “nth weekday” rules such as the fourth Thursday of November for US Thanksgiving, the last Monday of May for the UK spring bank holiday, the Monday before 25 May for Victoria Day, and Easter computed with the standard Gregorian algorithm (Easter Sunday is 5 April 2026 and 28 March 2027). Weekend rules then move or add days off. Automated tests compare the result with the official 2026 and 2027 lists published by OPM, GOV.UK, Canada.ca and Tourism Australia.
Governments sometimes add one-off holidays, such as a royal event or a national day of mourning, at short notice. If that happens, the official sources linked below are updated first.
Printing tips
- Set the scale to “Default” or “Fit to page” and match the paper size to the option you chose here.
- For the full-year page, portrait gives three months per row; landscape gives four.
- Most browsers print light backgrounds only if “Background graphics” is ticked. Holidays are also shown in bold with their names listed, so they stay clear without it.
- On a phone, use Share, then Print, then pinch out on the preview to save a PDF (iPhone), or choose Save as PDF as the printer (Android).
Frequently asked questions
Is this calendar really free to print?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit. The calendar is built in your browser and printed or saved as a PDF by your own device, so nothing is uploaded.
Why does my 2027 US calendar show 31 December as a holiday?
New Year’s Day 2028 falls on a Saturday. Under the federal rule, a Saturday holiday is observed on the Friday before, which is Friday 31 December 2027. OPM lists it in its 2028 table, but the day off is in 2027, so it appears on the 2027 calendar.
Are UK bank holidays for Scotland included?
Not yet. The UK option uses the England and Wales list. Scotland adds 2 January and St Andrew’s Day and moves the summer bank holiday to August’s first Monday, and Northern Ireland adds St Patrick’s Day and the Battle of the Boyne.
How do I add the holidays to Google Calendar or my iPhone?
Press "Download holidays (.ics)". On a computer, import the file in Google Calendar (Settings, Import and export) or open it with Outlook or Apple Calendar. On an iPhone, open the downloaded file and tap Add All. The events are all-day and marked as free time.
Can I make a calendar that starts on Monday?
Yes. Set "Week starts on" to Monday. The UK and Australian options pick Monday automatically; you can change it for any country.
